Well-Being & Stress Consultancy ...
... practical strategies for a healthy workplace.
Well-Being refers to a person's subjective feeling of satisfaction and contentment.
Well-Being is a complex human state that determines people’s personal happiness and motivation to work. In the work place well-being is the result of the dynamic interaction of several forces (e.g. responsibility, work relationships, work pressure, support, acknowledgement etc) the optimum levels of which vary from individual to individual. Making changes in the workplace to raise levels of well being is a very effective way to increase productivity and organisational effectiveness but it requires careful attention to individual differences between people, for example, what is a healthy level of work pressure for one person might be dangerously stressful for another.
Well-being levels account for over 20% of job variance so it is a very significant factor determining organisationsal success. Well-being is related to stress in so far as when you focus on managing stress you are necessarily improving well being; for example, by modifying work pressure so that it matches employee ability to cope with pressure you are lowering stress and raising well-being.
Stress is a major problem in the world of work. Research shows that at any one time nearly 5 million people in the UK report that they are experiencing damaging levels of stress as a result of their work. The solution to this problem is to be pro-active and avoid stress by taking action to improve well-being...organisations that wait until they have a stress problem to resolve have waited too long, and waiting too long can be a very costly mistake. Employees are increasingly turning to the courts seeking compensation from their employers for stress induced 'psychological injury'.
By taking well being seriously you avoid stress issues arising, which is obviously a more effective strategy than responding to stress when it has already started to do damage. We can conduct reliable and valid stress risk assessments to ensure your organisation is in line with HSE guidelines and we can assist you in engineering the conditions that favour well-being and reduce stress risks.
